DarkNeon and The Wotch: Overcrossed
Part 1: New in Town.
A town best known for its wild and rumored tales of the freakiest events ever to happen on the face of the planet. In the town, a custom Blue Corvette C6 is driving around. Inside are 6 teenagers, each with a unique style of life. Anne Onymous, a red-haired girl in the front passenger seat, was really a powerful witch of sorts with more zany tales than you can point your finger at! In the back was her two close friends. Robin Ericson, who once had a crush on Anne, but has since moved on to someone else, and also a dependable friend. And Jason Grey, a constantly sarcastic comic book reader, with a unique need for red-haired girls, except for Anne, since they became friends. They were the hometown kids of Tandy, and today, they've been assigned to give a tour of the town to their new friends from out of town.
From the town of Noir Skys, three friends were given the assignment of a student exchange at Tandy Gardens High School. One in the back was Riley Best, a computer whiz, hardcore gamer, and still only at the age of 15! A tomboy sitting up in the front in the middle seat was Kami Dawn, a girl with a fun streak and a friendly smile on her face. And finally, the person driving his car, was Derek Night, a boy with a 'dark' secret. He was the current wielder of the Shadow Elementiant and was a superhero by the name of DarkNeon. His friends Kami and Riley knew about his secret, but the other three in the car with them had no clue about that secret. And the three Noir Skys kids did not know Anne's secret that she already shared with her friends. Talk about dramatic irony, right?
"And over here is the Warp Pipe Arcade," Anne pointed out as she and her friends continued the tour. "An arcade? Now you're speaking our language!" Riley exclaimed. "Uh, hey, not to sound rude and all, I mean, I enjoy riding around in a sports car as much as the next guy, but could we walk? My legs are starting to fall asleep!" Jason asked as he finished reading yet another comic that he read from front to back in no time flat. "Sure, just let me find someplace to park," Derek said as he pulled in to an open spot. He parked it and the guys exited the vehicle. "So...anyone up for a snack?" Robin asked as they entered Taverner's Mart, a convenience store. "Sure, why not?" Riley replied. The guys looked around to see what appeased them. Derek got a can of pop, Kami grabbed some chips, Riley grabbed a couple of chocolates, Anne grabbed a candy bar, while Robin grabbed his crunch bar and Jason grabbed a Twix. As they dropped off their stash, Ally, the store owner, greeted the guys. "Hey there, Anne, Robin, Jason! How's everyone doing today?" she asked as she scanned the items. "Eh, can't complain today," Jason replied. "Pretty good! Business going nicely, Ally?" Anne asked. "Yep! So, who're your new friends there? Can't recall seeing their faces before," Ally asked. "Well, these guys are the exchange students from Noir Skys. This is Riley, Kami, and Derek," Robin said as he introduced them in order. "Nice to meet you guys! Enjoying Tandy?" Ally asked as she was just totaling the price. "It's cool, really. So much to see, so much to do! I mean, you guys saw that mall, right?" Kami said to her friends. "It was hard not to, Kams! Can't wait to hit there during the weekend!" Derek replied. Ally just announced the total of the price, then Anne and Derek reached into their pockets to get the cash, but as they were about to hand them, they stopped. "It's ok Derek, I've got this," Anne said. "No, I've got this. It's the least that I could do for you guys. Let me, ok?" Derek insisted. They kept it up, until Derek accidentally bumped into a jar of jerky and made it crash on the floor. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry, Ally!" Derek tried to apologize. "It's ok, just let me clean this up, ok?" Ally said as she got a dust pan and broom. "Let me help, Ally," Derek offered. "No no. It's ok. I got it Derek," Ally insisted. As Derek tried to ask again, he noticed something off. His sight was giving him a hazy vision of something cloaking her from the waist down. He could vaguely see an outline of a horse's body and legs, but no head....almost as it there were a centaur. "Derek? Derek?" He snapped back into attention as Robin asked him, "You ok? You looked like you saw a ghost." Derek stood back up and replied, "No. no, I'm fine, really. Thanks for being concerned. Uh, sorry about the mess, Ally." "It's ok, really. You guys take care, alright?" Ally said. "We will. Later Ally!" Anne said. They left the store and continued the tour. Derek however was a little bit thrown off, after seeing that outline near Ally. 'Could she...? NAH! Letting that final fight with TSD get to your head!' Derek thought to himself.
Later, the guys passed by a set of steps that led down into a store, but they continued by without notice of it. Kami pointed out, "Wait, what about down there? Aren't you going to tour us in there?" "Down there? No. Nothing's down there. Just a lingre shop," Anne insisted, "Nothing really important. Now let's head back and get back to our homes." "Speaking of homes, we've gotta get unpacked into our assigned ones," Kami noted. The guys got back into the car and headed back into the neighborhood. Kami grabbed her stuff from the car and brought them inside Anne's house, where she was to spend the night in. "Nice place you got here, Anne!" Kami said as she looked around. "Aw, thanks Kami! Just me and my big bro live here! Oh and also Maki, our cat!" Anne said as Maki came and rubbed against Kami's leg. "Aww...he's cute. *sigh* It's just too bad it won't be the same without my younger siblings," Kami said softly. "You have younger ones?" Anne asked. "Yep! Ben, Allie, and the new one Mikey," Kami said. "Wow! how can you handle having that many in one house? I have problems dealing with just o-uhh...I mean, nevermind!" Anne said making a grin to act like she didn't know what she was talking about. Then, Anne's brother Evan came in and greeted Kami. "Hey there, kiddo! Nice to meet a new face! Welcome to Casa de Onymous! Please make youself at home!"he said. Kami was honored at that little dispay there. While she was unpacking, she noticed somthing she never thought she'd see again..."Whoa! Sweet! You have a Wii?" she asked. "Yeppers! I'm a Nintendo fanatic, so I'm bound to the current consoles, but I remain faithful to the classics!" Anne said. Kami looked at the small shelf of Wii games (while there was filled shelves of the older games) and noticed a "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" game. "Sweet! You have this! Oh...can't wait to let the guys know this!" "You guys play Nintendo too?" Anne asked. "Well, Derek has a Wii and I do as well, but Riley has an Xbox 360 only. Derek has one too, but I stick with the longest running company," Kami replied. "Ah, I see. I guess that's cool. Hey, don't tell anyone this, but I have a crush on the Adult version of Link!" Anne whispered to Kami. "You do? Huh...that's funny. I happen to have a crush on the Terminator character John Connor....uh, don't tell anyone I said that. I don't even trust Derek with that secret! I-It's too embarassing," Kami said. "You have my trust, Kami! Not a word shall pass these lips!" Anne promised as she made a movement with her fingers as if she was zipping her lips shut. "Thanks Anne. Now then, where do I stay in?" Kami asked as she picked her bag up. "Right this way," Anne said as she led Kami upstairs and past Anne's room, which was open a crack. Kami was able to peek inside and noticed a couple of weird things, but she didn't percieve anything too out of sorts. Anne opened a door and led Kami into the guest room. "Here you go! Is it ok, Kami?" Anne asked as Kami stepped inside and investigated her new room. A nice clean bed, a few drawers, a closet, and a window that gave view to the street. "Hmm....not bad! Needs a few homey touches, but not bad! Thanks Anne!" Kami said. "No prob! I'll let you get unpacked and get yourself situated. That ok?" Anne asked as she stepped out of the door. "Yeah. I'll come down and challenge you to a game of 'Brawl'!" Kami exclaimed with pride. "Heh. I'd like to see you try! Anne retorted as she left and closed the door. Kami was left to unpack her clothes and gear that she brought over. She also brought a few DVDs from home to enjoy and also had her music player. Then she pulled out a picture frame that had her, Derek, Riley and Derek's girlfriend back at Noir Skys, Kayla Starr, posing for a fun picture. She smiled and put it on the little table next to her bed, then pulled another one out that had her, her 9-year-old brother Ben, 5-year-old sister Allie, mother Lindsey, and her father Miles. She smiled and also pulled a couple of recent small pictures of Mikey, her newborn brother, with him looking at the camera with a silly grin and also another pic that had him and herself hugging and holding him to the camera. She smiled and let a tear fall. "I'll miss you guys...but I'll be back soon. Promise," Kami said softly as she put them ont the table next the other picture frame. She then undressed herself and got into some softer clothes for night and headed downstairs, but then stopped, as she saw a little doll in the corner of the hallway. She slowly walked to it and picked it up to inspect it. "What's this? a baby doll? What's this doing here? I don't remember Anne saying she had any younger siblings in here. Maybe I should ask her," Kami said and headed downstairs. She walked into the living room as Anne set up the Wii for her. "Hey Anne? Do you have a younger sibling or something?" Kami asked, and caught Evan offguard as he spit his drink in a double take. "What? Oh! uh...no that's..uh....I think that belongs to one of the kids that I uh babysit after," Anne tried to make it up as she grabbed the doll, "that's all. I'll give this back to the girl that this belongs to." "Ok. I'll just go and grab something to drink," Kami said as she went into the kitchen. Anne gave the doll to Evan and whispered to him, "Make sure you don't leave your other self's stuff lying around with Kami here! It'll be awkward if I try to explain to her that my older brother is also a little 4-year-old girl named Lilly!" "Sorry about that! Got a bit rushed! Won't happen again! Kami will never learn about Lilly at all! you have my promise to ya as your oldest brother!" Evan replied. Kami made it back to the living room with a nice soda and Anne and Kami started their Brawl against each other.
Derek then dropped off Riley and Jason at Jason's place and went off. Riley and Jason headed to the front door and inside. "Alright...this is my place. Just don't try to mess it up and well...you know the rest," jason said with a flat sounding tone. "What's with your attitude? I know you can't always be that much of a downer! I bet that you have some certain moments were you enjoy yourself," Riley said as he was shown to his room. "I do. It's called reading my comics in peace," Jason replied. "Seriously, I mean it. How'd you become friends with Anne and Robin in the first place?" Riley asked. "Robin was an old friend that I've stuck with all my life. Anne...well it's complicated, so I won't go into details," Jason replied, trying to avoid revealing Anne's Wotch secret. "Whatever man. I'll unpack."
"Alright. Make yourself comfortable," Jason said as he left Riley to his unpacking. He unpacked his clothes, DVDs, essentials and whatnot. Then he lifted the false cover on the bottom and revealed his tech that he brought over, in case of any 'Unwanted trouble' that comes across his friend Derek's path. "This is going to be a long exchange assignment," Riley muttered as he finished unpacking and hid his tech under the bed. Then he heard a knock on his door and in came Jason's mom with a tray of hot treats. "Hello there! Riley, is it? I'm Mrs. Grey and I'm here to welcome you into our home! Feel free to become comfortable here during your temporary stay!" Mrs. Grey said with a smile on her face. "Thanks. Is Jason always so sarcastic?" Riley asked. "Oh that's just how he likes to have his life spent. He's really caring towards his friends, just give him time. In the meantime, cookie?" Mrs. Grey offered and Riley accepted. Then when she left, Riley took a bite out of it. Nice blend of chocolate and nuts in an even hot temperature. "Mmmm....then again...." Riley said as he took another bite and laid back on the bed.
Derek pulled up his car and parked it in front of the garage of Robin's house. As they got out of the car and entered the house, Robin said, "Well...welcome to the Ericson's residence!" "Thanks dude! Really nice place you got here!" Derek replied, before he got tackled by something behind him. "OOF! What the!?" "AHA! A new intruder in the Eric-san clan dojo! It is Kirk-ashi's duty to investigate the newcomer of any threats to the safety of Kirk-ashi's ancestors!" a boy's voice was heard behind Derek's back, as he held onto him hard. "Hey! What's the deal here? You got a brother, Robin?" Derek asked as he dropped his bag. "Hmm...he has a neutral piece of warrior wear," Kirk muttered, commenting on Derek's lucky hoodie, "He also drives a very versitile transport," commenting Derek's car, "and he also is very responsible looking! He's clean. Passed the interrogation with flying colors, Robin Nii-san!" Kirk hopped of of Derek's back. "Yeah, thanks for the cavity search Kirk. I think I already got the idea. Yes this is my little brother Derek. He's abit....well stubborn after watching a 9 hour marathon of Naruto. He's Kirk, but he likes to go by Kirk-ashi," Robin said, then a woman walked into the room. "And I'm Mrs. Ericson. Lovely to meet you Derek! We've been excited to have a new friend come and visit! make yourself at home!" she said as she shook Derek's hand and gave a motherly smile. "Thanks! I promise to not be a trouble to you all. Plus, you don't have to worry about me tangling with Kirk-ashi. I have made practice with my best friend Kami's little bro, Ben Dawn. Kinda into WWE, but the ninjitsu thing will throw me off," Derek said. Kirk muttered to himself, saying that he may have an upper hand against him. "Oh you won't be a trouble, deary. I can tell. Robin, show him to the guest room, will you?" "Sure thing mom! This way dude," Robin said as he escorted Derek upstairs and to the guest room. "Well here it is. Not much but, it can be very homey with some touches." "Thanks man. I might feel a little homesick, but I think everything here will help make it feel like home!" Derek joked. "By the way, is your dad around?" "Nah, not much. He's usually busy and this time is going to be his busiest, so it won't be until summer that we get to see him again. But it's ok. Anyways, I'll let you unpack your stuff," Robin said as he left and closed the door. Derek started to unpack his bag and got out his clothes and DVDs that he felt that he might get to watch later, then set his pictures up on the walls and then put a couple of ones with him and his friends on the table next to his room. Then he pulled out an old picture frame that only had him and Kami hanging and posing for fun at a young age. "Ahh....the good ol days...I remember it all so well....of course in Kami's point of view, it would vary...." He put it down and then sat back on the bed. "Maybe I'll get a moment's rest for once...." Derek said, before a faint noise of alarms echoed in the distance. "Uh...maybe just a tail- light put out..." Derek figured. But then that noise was accompanied by more noise. "Then again....it wouldn't hurt to try to go for a quick night run...." Derek said as he quietly opened the window and got out. After closing the window, he mentally activated his powers, causing a bright black-blue light to envelop his body, dying his clothes into dark colors, then his strength doubled some, while the glow from the aura gave the illusion that his skin was gleaming back a dark shade. Then his eyes shone bright white and the symbol of the Shadow Elelmentiant scratched itself into existence on the back of his hoodie and he was now DarkNeon! As he went into flight mode, he followed the sounds of the wails that were echoing in Tandy Gardens. As he looked down, he saw it was all leading up to where...Taverner's Mart was at! "Oh no! Ally!" DarkNeon muttered to himself as he flew faster downwards. However, he was unawre that he was being watched by a hooded figure, with a rare bird species resting on her arm...
"ALRIGHT LADY! You know the drill! Give us the necessities, or you can consider you store unnecessary!" One masked robber threatened Ally, as she held out her arms behind her counter. "Now fellas....let's not do anything hasty here....we can be a little reasonable!" Ally tried to reason. "Shut up, snitch! Boyle, get the cash and whatever you can carry! The cops are gonna be coming soon!" the robber said. "You got it Randy! I'll just *CRASH* Wha!?" the lights were broken off thanks to DarkNeon's entrance and the two robbers never stood a chance, as they were quickly subdued by him and left for the cops to come to the building. The headlights of the cars illuminated the dark store and soon the cops came in and took the robbers away, while Ally, who was still feeling a little shaken after the whole ordeal, noticed a small note next to the jar of jerky. She picked it up and read it.
'Sorry about the mess I made. Figured that the police should do that since they worked hard to try to catch up here. Hope you weren't too scared of the dark! Will be watching.
-signed a friend.'
"Whoa...and I thought Anne being The Wotch was weird...." Ally whispered to herself as she was trying to get situated.
DarkNeon was able to leap past a couple buildings away and landed on a rooftop. He decided to put his hood up, just to add the effect and looked out the bright city. "*sniff* Ahh! Just like back at home!" DarkNeon said to himself. "Oh really? And where would that be?" a woman's voice called out from behind him and made him jump. "WHOA! Do people on rooftops have to give heart attacks to others?" DarkNeon asked. "Just what exactly are you doing in my city?" the hooded woman asked as a phoenix landed on her shoulder. "Sorry...didn't know this city already had a superhero. So...what do you go by? Miss Hood? Lady Mystery? or maybe The Myth, seeing as you have a phoenix for an ally?" DarkNeon asked her. "I'm not a superhero! I'm just somebody who wants to know who you are and what do you want here?" She said in a threatening tone. "Whoa...take it easy there...let's not do anything we'll regret later..." DarkNeon tried to reason with her. "Oh don't worry...you'll already regret messing with me!" she said then held out her hand and fired a magic burst of energy. "WHOA! Hey! you almost took my eye out!" DarkNeon said as he flipped backwards and dodged the impact. Then the woman continued firing blast after blast after blast, while DarkNeon either dodged them or deflected them with his arm shield that he morphs out. "Cut it out! I can't really fight you if I don't know the reason! That isn't my thing!" DarkNeon cried out as he tried to escape the fight by leaping building after building. , but the woman was close by him. "Unless if you want to end up a toad girl, you'll give yourself up and reveal yourself!" she said. 'No way!' DarkNeon thought, 'I'm not gonna stop because of this! I need to lose her fast!' Then as DarkNeon was heading towards a huge building and came up with an idea. He focus his body and started to fade into a stream of shadowy mist and went through the building and went straight down to the alley way. "Damn. Arizona, try to track him down! I can't teleport to catch up, since I need to KNOW exactly where I'm going," she said and the phoenix flying with her nodded it's head. It flew around the city, trying to get a sensing pick-up of where the shadow hoodlum disappeared to, since Phoenixes are able to sense energy prensence. DarkNeon rushed into an alley and decided to deactivate his powers and see if he'll get off grid. concentrating, he powered down and was Derek again, hiding behind trash cans, as he looked up to see the phoenix fly around over head for a bit, but went off into another direction. *Whew* "That was close! Just what is up with this city? There's a couple of things that don't add up...first was the outline I saw around Ally, now this hooded woman with a phoenix as a pet...not to mention I'm being hunted down! I guess this town isn't used to having superhero strangers from out of town. Guess I'm back to square one down here. Now then," he said as he got out of the alley and looked around to not see the hooded woman or the bird, he went into DarkNeon and rushed back towards the Ericson residence. He made it back and deactivated his powers when he landed on a tree branch. Then he opened the window and stepped back inside and closed the window. "Guess I'll really be needing that rest for tomorrow now! *yawn* Being a hero is tough..." Derek said to himself as he got into bed. He looked back at his pictures next to his bed and also thought back to how he saved Ally and her store. He smiled and finished, " but the rewards are worth it nonetheless." *click*
"Yeah! Gotcha! Link wins again!" Anne exclaimed, beating Kami again. "Geez! Can no one stop you?" Kami asked. "Funny. That's what Robin was complaining about as well! Guess this is just my luck!" Anne said, "But you were close, I'll admit. One more scratch on that Smash Ball and you would've had me!" "Yeah. One more before we hit the hay?" Kami asked. "You're on!" Anne replied, before they were inturrupted by a knock on the door. "Now who could that be in the middle of the night?" Evan asked as he walked to the door and opened it, revealing a woman with a tight pony tailed hair knot style in brown hair, and sharp eyes. She was dressed in a heavy garb, the type that the hooded woman wore earlier, but she had her hood down. "Oh...that's who'd be in the middle of the night," Evan said. "Hello Evan. I need to speak with your sister," she said with a stern, but polite tone. "Hey sis! Someone from the WEST is here to see you!" Evan said, giving a code to Anne that it involved Miranda West, who was the previous Wotch and was Anne's current mentor. "Oh! Sorry Kami, but I've gotta talk to someone. Think we could call this a night?" Anne asked. "Uh, sure? Why not? I was getting tired anyways. I'll see ya tomorrow morning then. Night Anne, night Evan!" Kami said as she went up to her room and closed the door. "Who was that?" Miranda asked. "That was Kami Dawn. She's one of the exchange students from Noir Skys that I volunteered for to give my home to her. Robin and Jason also has the other two," Anne explained. Miranda looked upstairs to make sure that Kami wasn't going to eavesdrop on the conversation. "Well, as long as you don't do anything that blows your secret and forces me to turn her into a newt to keep her mouth shut about the affair, then I won't have a problem." "Don't say that about Kami, please? She's very sweet and caring, in a tomboy way. Anyways, what's up?" Anne asked. "Ah yes, well earlier this evening, I sensed something ominous and powerful in Tandy Gardens. I came to investigate and came across a dark powered hoodlum. Thought of himself as a superhero and whatnot," Miranda began to explain. "Wait, he was acting like a superhero? That's ridiculous! Who'd ever think that?" Anne asked. "Obviously someone who wants the attention and admiration from the city, then play them like saps and turn against them," Miranda figured. "So what do you want me to do?" Anne asked, feeling that she's been drafted into yet another adventure. "Nothing." "what?" "Anne, this might be different than you've ever faced. I lost track of him when he escaped and Arizona couldn't pick up anything from him. So it's safe to assume that this is probably somebody who can blend in fast and appear when needed. If you try to go after him, he'll probably figure out your identity and use your friends as leverage. I'll deal with him, while you stay low," Miranda explained. "But I can take him on! I've faced a number of threats before and they all knew about me..after awhile..." Anne replied. "Because they don't need to waste their time exposing you to the public eye and try to have the media and greedy attention to come for you! The ones you faced would've rathered killed you than blow your secret, which is why I'll handle him, seeing as I tied away most of my past behind!" Miranda said. Anne was flabbergasted at how she's being asked to play possum. "But-I mean...you can't tell me to back off! I've come too far to be threatened by someone in a dark getup! Besides, if he says he's a hero, then he's not really interested in me!" "Nevertheless, he is performing these acts of so-called heroism above the law, when it should befall to the duty of the emergency crew! That is what makes him a vigilante and I will not have that in my city at all!" Miranda exclaimed, "So I'm ordering you, as a mentor and the previous Wotch, to step down and lay low!" Anne just stood there quietly and just thought of if what Miranda said was true, then she could not only be risking herself, but also her friends...or even worse, their new friends who haven't a clue of what's going on! "Ok Miranda....I'll stay low and keep off the grass...." Anne said somberly. "Thank you...." Miranda said as she turned to leave but stopped to see Anne's face. "I'm sorry if I acted aggressive to you, but I was telling the honest truth that you and your friends are at great stake. I was once a teenager like you and acted like you, but I've learned from the mistakes that I made and i don't want that to happen to you...I look out for you Anne....always know that." Anne nodded her head and replied, "Yeah. I know you better than that. You aren't really the 'Wicked West of the Wotch' that you were misjudged to be." "Please don't use that term....unless you want to add 'newt' to your list of things you've turned into," Miranda said. "Oops! Sorry! Hehe!" Anne apologized embarassingly. "Get some rest. You have school tomorrow," Miranda said and Anne nodded. "Come Ari. Let's head back to the cabin," Miranda said, putting her hood up and vanishing into the night. Anne closed the door and thought back to everything that's happened. "If there's a vigilante superhero in town, i gotta let the guys know about this. Can't wait to see Jason's reaction to the superhero," she said to herself and headed upstairs and then was met up with Kami, who stick her head out the door. "What was that all about?" Kami asked. Anne hesitated and said, "nothing...just...the mother of the girl I babysat come looking for the doll, that's all." "Oh. good thing! I can't stand it when we lose somethign valuable, like my hairband. It was a handmade gift by my great-grandma, before she...well...." Kami hesitated and Anne replied, "I think I understand. Sorry to hear that." "It's ok. See ya tomorrow?" "Yeah. Night." "Night." and they went into their rooms and into their beds and shut the light.
Epilogue: A stranger in a trenchcoat and fedora hat slowly walked, as he made it to the outer limits of Tandy Gardens. He walked up to a tall hill that showed the wide view of the bright city. "Yes....this shall serve as my new kingdom! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!"
End of Part 1: New in Town
